Archaeological finds on the territory of the municipality of Nova Varos indicate traces of a settlement from 3000 BC. The administrative building of Nova Varos, or the building of the old municipality (known as \"White Dove\" and Novo Varos kajmakamija)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

was erected in 1909, as a combination of Islamic architectural and Western European style, and had a tradition of entertainment between the two world wars.1 After the Second World War, it was the seat of the municipal administration, and then it was forgotten for a long time. Today it houses the Homeland Museum and Library.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Cultural site details<\/h3>\n

The building of the Old Municipality, which is also known as the Turkish name Kajmakamija, was erected for the needs of housing Turkish state institutions. Until 1987, the building housed the Municipal Assembly, and at the beginning of the 21st century, it was adapted for the needs of the city library. The building is multi-storey, rectangular in plan, with two pronounced lateral and one central projection. The main entrance is located on the ground floor of the central risalit, above which is the divanhana outlet. The divanhana is supported by two massive pillars and two pilasters, connected by broken arches. The building is a rare example of a building created after the introduction of reforms in the Ottoman Empire, whose forms are a synthesis of European romantic currents and traditional Islamic architecture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
