The monastery itself was founded as a women's monastery and their mother, the wife of the leader Musa and the sister of Prince Lazar (1371-1389) Dragan, who died in it as a nun Theodosius, retired and became a monk. After the Battle of Kosovo, the body of Prince Lazar spent the night in the monastery in 1392, during his transfer to Ravanica. The Metropolitan of Raska, Joanikije, renovated the monastery in 1464 and added an external narthex. The narthex was then painted at the request of Grand Duke Mihailo Andjelković from Novi Brdo. At the end of the 19th century. a massive bell tower was erected. The first detailed cleaning of the frescoes was done in 1954-55, and in the last twenty years, archeological research and conservation work on architecture and frescoes have been carried out.

Cultural site details

The Church of Nova Pavlica, built in the Moravian style, is quite different from other monasteries in the Raska region. The outside is white, sharp and undecorated, so it does not imitate Stara Pavlica with its appearance. Although simple, the space of the monastery does not lose its sublimity and is rich in some other way. What characterizes Nova Pavlica are:- Portraits of the Music brothers, the founders of the monastery - it is believed that the monastery preserves their earthly remains;- The grave of the mother of the Music brothers - she is buried here as a nun Teodosija.2The monastery church itself is dedicated to the Presentation of the Most Holy Mother of God, and was built in the Moravian style, which was just emerging at the time, so that the church has a base of trefoils or triconchs. is rather poorly decorated on the outside - from the beginning it was plastered and whitewashed. Frescoes have been preserved in its interior to this day, although much of it has fallen into disrepair. The fresco also contains a founder's portrait of the Music brothers. It is assumed that the painters came from Macedonia. The church is surrounded, on the northwest side, by the most noticeable remains of monastery buildings. On the south side of the monastery is a smaller inn of recent date. The nuns live in it, and Nova Pavlica is a branch of the Gradac monastery, which is about 14 km away.

The monastery is located next to the Ibar in Brvenik, not far from the Stara Pavlica monastery and the remains of the Brvenik fortress.
